All Details
Bougainvillea is a hardy, colorful flowering climber famous for its bright paper-like flowers and long blooming season.
I am a strong flowering climber known for my vibrant pink, purple, red, orange, or white bracts that bloom almost year round.
I come from South America and thrive naturally in warm tropical and subtropical regions.
I prefer moderate watering and do not like waterlogged soil once established.
I bloom best in full sunlight and need at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sun daily.
I grow well between 20°C to 38°C and can tolerate heat but not frost.
I grow best in open ground, near fences or walls, with well-drained soil and support for climbing.
I grow well with light feeding of compost or low-nitrogen fertilizer to encourage flowering.
My botanical name is Bougainvillea glabra and I belong to the Nyctaginaceae family.
I am generally safe, but my thorns can cause injury if pets brush against me.
I help improve air quality by adding greenery and oxygen outdoors.
I add bright color, act as natural fencing, provide shade, and need very low maintenance.
I may produce fewer flowers if overwatered or grown in shade.
I am a long-living perennial plant and can thrive for many years with proper care.
