I am a quirky and fascinating variety, often called the "Chilly Mango" or "Mirchi Mango" because of my long, slender, and curved shape that looks exactly like a giant green chili hanging from the tree. I produce medium-to-long, thin fruits that can grow up to 6–8 inches in length. My flesh is a bright lemon-yellow, incredibly firm, and completely fiberless, offering a sweet, mild flavor with a satisfying "crunchy-ripe" texture.
I am a specialty "novelty" mango prized for my unique shape and my dual-utility; I am delicious when eaten raw/crunchy with salt or when allowed to fully ripen into a sweet dessert fruit.
I am a regional favorite in parts of Southern India and Southeast Asia, where I have been selected by farmers who appreciate my distinct silhouette and high yield.
I prefer consistent watering during the fruit-development stage to ensure my long, slender body fills out properly without cracking or dropping.
I require full, direct sunlight for at least 8 to 10 hours a day; plenty of sun is essential for me to develop my high sugar content while maintaining my firm texture.
I love hot, tropical climates between 25°C and 38°C and am very well-adapted to the humid summers of South India and Thailand.
I grow into a medium-sized tree with a slightly more open canopy than other mangoes; I prefer deep, well-draining loamy soil that allows my roots to anchor firmly.
I am a moderate feeder; I respond well to organic manures and a balanced fertilizer in the early spring, which helps me produce long, healthy fruit clusters.
My scientific name is Mangifera indica 'Chilly' (or 'Mirchi') and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.
My flesh is safe for pets, but because I am so thin, my pit is also quite narrow—ensure it is never swallowed as it can cause internal blockages.
My evergreen foliage is excellent at providing year-round oxygen and acts as a natural windbreak and dust filter for your garden.
I am an excellent source of Vitamin C and Vitamin A; I am a conversation starter in any orchard and one of the best varieties for making "Mango Fries" or unique salads.
Because of my long shape, I can be delicate during harvest; I should be protected from fruit flies and mango hoppers during the humid months.
I am a sturdy and productive perennial tree that can continue to provide you with "chili-shaped" harvests for 40 to 50 years.
