All Details

I am one of the most mysterious and visually striking mangoes in the world, often called the "Black Mango" or "Blue Mango." I produce small-to-medium, plum-like fruits with a skin that turns a deep, dark purple—almost black—as I ripen. Beneath my dark exterior, my flesh is a starkly contrasting bright orange, offering a flavor that is intensely sweet with a unique, wild tropical twist and a musk-like aroma.

I am a rare, exotic variety prized for my "gothic" appearance and my high antioxidant content; I am often grown more as a collector’s specialty or ornamental marvel than a commercial staple.

I am native to the tropical forests of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia, where I am known locally as Kasturi. Unlike common mangoes, I am technically a distinct species or sub-species.

I am a true tropical native; I thrive with high humidity and regular, deep watering, but I require well-drained soil to prevent my roots from sitting in stagnant water.

I love the sun; I need at least 8 to 10 hours of full, direct sunlight to develop the deep purple-black pigments (anthocyanins) in my skin.

I crave consistent tropical warmth between 25°C and 38°C; I am very sensitive to cold and do not tolerate frost or prolonged chilly temperatures well.

I grow into a tall, majestic tree with a dense, upright canopy; I prefer rich, organic, slightly acidic soil that mimics the forest floor of my native Borneo.

I am a steady feeder; I appreciate organic mulch, fish emulsion, and balanced tropical fertilizers to maintain my lush, dark foliage and support my heavy fruiting cycles.

My scientific name is Mangifera casturi (a close relative of the common mango) and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.

My orange flesh is safe and rich in vitamins, but my skin is thick and my sap can be more resinous than other mangoes—keep pets away from the tree bark and leaves.

My large, dark-green evergreen leaves are exceptional at producing oxygen and providing deep shade, making me a beautiful "eco-warrior" for your garden.

I am incredibly high in anthocyanins and antioxidants due to my dark skin, and my "wild" flavor is a favorite for those looking for something beyond the standard mango taste.

I am quite hardy in the right climate, but because I am a forest species, I can be susceptible to scale insects and need protection from dry, desert-like winds.

I am a slow-growing but very long-lived perennial tree, often surviving for 60 to 100 years in my native tropical environment.
