I am Olosapo, the orchard’s custard treasure. My golden fruits taste like sweet potato blended with custard and burnt sugar.
I am a tropical fruit tree producing custard-like fruits.
Native to southern Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama; introduced to Florida.
Irrigate weekly; prefer moist, well-drained soil.
Requires full sun.
Thrives in 22–32°C; sensitive to frost.
Plant in sandy-loam soil; spacing 6–8 meters apart.
Apply compost and balanced NPK every 2–3 months.
Botanical name: Couepia polyandra; Family: Chrysobalanaceae.
Fruits are safe; seeds fibrous and not edible.
Moderate; leafy canopy reduces dust.
Fruits rich in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants; eaten fresh or in desserts.
Susceptible to anthracnose and fruit borer; prune for airflow and monitor regularly.
Can live 20–25 years; starts fruiting in 4–5 years; peak yield from year 10 onward.
