I am Goolar, the fig of the forest. My fruits grow in clusters from my trunk, feeding birds, bees, and humans alike. I stand tall in temple groves and village fields, offering shade, sustenance, and healing.
I am a tropical fig tree producing clustered edible fruits directly on my trunk.
Native to India, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia.
Water weekly when young; drought-tolerant when mature.
Full sun to partial shade.
Thrives in 25–38°C; tolerates dry heat.
Plant in deep, well-drained loamy soil; spacing 8–10 meters apart.
Apply compost annually; minimal fertilization needed.
Botanical name: Ficus racemosa; Synonym: Ficus glomerata; Family: Moraceae.
Fruits are safe; latex may irritate skin.
High; large canopy and latex absorb pollutants.
Fruits rich in fiber and antioxidants; bark used in Ayurveda for diabetes, ulcers, and wounds.
Generally hardy; may attract wasps and ants due to fig pollination.
Can live 50–100 years; starts fruiting in 3–5 years; peak yield from year 10 onward.
