I am the "Honey of the Forest," a vibrant and exotic treasure often described as the sophisticated cousin of the Mangosteen. I produce small-to-medium, egg-shaped fruits with a thick, leathery, brilliant orange skin. Inside, my flesh is snowy white, offering a refreshing and complex flavor profile that perfectly balances intense sweetness with a sharp, zesty acidity—reminiscent of a cross between a loquat and a mangosteen.
I am a premium specialty fruit prized for my high sugar-to-acid ratio and my incredible shelf life; I can stay fresh for weeks after being picked.
I originated in the Bolivian Amazon, where my name literally means "Honey Kiss." I have recently gained global fame as a commercial success in tropical Australia.
I love water and humidity; I require consistent, regular watering, especially during my young years, but I must have well-draining soil to keep my roots healthy.
I am a bit shy when young, preferring dappled shade to protect my leaves, but as a mature tree, I thrive in full, direct sunlight for 6 to 8 hours a day.
I am a true tropical soul, preferring temperatures between 20°C and 35°C; I am sensitive to frost and very dry, desert-like winds.
I am a slow-growing, attractive evergreen tree with a conical shape; I prefer deep, rich, slightly acidic organic soil and make a beautiful ornamental addition to any garden.
I am a moderate feeder; I thrive on organic compost and balanced fertilizers. A regular dose of trace elements (like iron and magnesium) helps keep my leaves a lush, deep green.
My scientific name is Garcinia humilis and I belong to the Clusiaceae family, making me a close relative of the Mangosteen and Gamboge.
My white pulp is safe for consumption, but my thick orange skin and large seeds contain bitter compounds and should be kept away from curious pets.
My dense, glossy foliage is a fantastic air filter and oxygen producer, and because I am slow-growing, I am excellent at sequestering carbon over a long period.
I am low in sugar compared to other fruits but high in antioxidants and potassium; my skin is even used to make a refreshing, bitter-sweet medicinal drink.
I am relatively pest-resistant, but my main challenge is my slow growth rate—you must be patient for my first harvest, which can take 7 to 10 years from seed.
I am a very hardy and long-lived perennial tree, capable of providing "honey-kissed" harvests for 50 to 80 years.
