I am a premium, high-quality hybrid mango variety, widely celebrated for my stunning golden-apricot color and my exceptional ability to remain fresh long after being harvested. I produce medium-sized, oblong fruits with a smooth, attractive skin that turns a bright, sun-kissed yellow with a beautiful reddish blush on the shoulders. My flesh is a deep orange, firm, and entirely fiberless, offering a rich, sweet flavor with a very pleasant, mild aroma.
I am a high-yielding, regular-bearing hybrid prized for my "Surya" (sun-like) appearance and my outstanding shelf life, which makes me one of the best varieties for commercial export and long-distance transport.
I was developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Pusa, New Delhi, through a selection from the exotic Eldon variety.
I require deep and consistent watering during my flowering and fruit-set stages, but I prefer well-drained soil to prevent root issues and to help my sugars concentrate as I ripen.
I thrive in full, direct sunlight for at least 8 to 10 hours a day; intense sun is essential for me to develop my characteristic golden-red skin and deep internal color.
I love warm, tropical to subtropical climates between 24°C and 40°C and am very well-adapted to the hot, dry summers of Northern and Central India.
I have a moderately vigorous growth habit and perform best in deep, fertile loamy soil where my roots can spread; I am well-suited for both traditional and high-density planting.
I am a moderate feeder; I appreciate organic manures like well-rotted cow dung in the winter and a boost of potassium in early spring to enhance my fruit color and sugar levels.
My scientific name is Mangifera indica 'Pusa Surya' and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.
My fruit flesh is a safe treat for pets, but my sap can be irritating to their skin and eyes, and my pit should never be given to them as it is a choking hazard.
My dense, evergreen canopy is highly effective at absorbing carbon dioxide and providing cooling shade, making me a beautiful and functional addition to any garden.
I am a nutritional powerhouse rich in Vitamin A (Beta-carotene) and Vitamin C, and my firm flesh allows me to stay fresh at room temperature for up to 10–12 days.
I am known for my field resistance to mango malformation, but I should still be protected from mango hoppers during the flowering season and fruit flies during ripening.
I am a sturdy and reliable perennial tree that can continue to provide you with "sun-kissed" premium harvests for 40 to 60 years.
