All Details

I am a legendary mango variety from Northern India, famously known as the "Banarasi Langra." I am highly prized for my incredible aroma and a flavor so distinct that it stands out from all other varieties. I produce medium-sized, oval fruits that remain a bright grass-green on the outside even when I am perfectly ripe and sweet on the inside.

I am a premier, mid-season mango variety known for my thin skin and my greenish-yellow, fiberless flesh that is exceptionally soft, juicy, and sweet.

I originated in Varanasi (Banaras), India, over 250 years ago; legend says I was first cultivated by a holy man who was "langra" (lame), giving me my unique name.

I need consistent, deep watering during the flowering and fruit-development stages, but I prefer well-drained soil to keep my roots healthy and productive.

I crave full, direct sunlight for 8 to 10 hours a day to develop my complex sugars and that signature "Langra" aroma that can fill an entire room.

I thrive in the hot, dry summers of North India, performing best in temperatures between 25°C and 40°C, and I am quite resilient to high heat.

I grow into a large, vigorous tree with a massive, spreading canopy, so I need plenty of space in a garden or orchard with deep, fertile loamy soil.

I am a heavy producer and appreciate a generous feeding of organic compost in the winter and a balanced NPK fertilizer before the flowering season begins.

My scientific name is Mangifera indica 'Langra' and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.

My fruit flesh is safe for pets, but my sap is quite strong and can cause skin irritation, and my pit should never be given to animals.

My dense, massive evergreen canopy is a powerhouse for oxygen production and provides deep, cooling shade that can lower local ground temperatures.

I am rich in Vitamin C and dietary fiber; my unique tart-sweet balance makes me a favorite for those who find other mangoes too sugary.

I can be prone to "alternate bearing" (fruiting heavily every second year), so regular pruning and proper nutrition are key to maintaining annual harvests.

I am a very sturdy and ancient lineage; a well-cared-for tree can remain a productive part of your family's heritage for 60 to 100 years.
