I am an exceptionally beautiful and late-season mango variety, often grown as much for my ornamental appeal as for my delicious fruit. I produce medium-sized, oval-to-plum-shaped fruits that are famous for their stunning, deep violet-to-bright red skin. My flesh is a pale lemon-yellow, remarkably firm, and almost entirely fiberless, offering a sweet, delicate flavor with a refreshing tropical tang.
I am a heavy-yielding and highly attractive mango variety known for my distinct purplish-red blush and my reliable, late-season harvests.
I originated in Miami, Florida, in the 1930s and have since become a favorite in Mediterranean and subtropical climates for my cold-hardiness and beauty.
I prefer regular, deep watering during the flowering and fruiting periods, but I am relatively resilient to short dry spells once my root system is established.
I need full, direct sunlight to develop the intense "sensation" of my purple and red skin pigments; shaded fruits will remain mostly green.
I thrive in warm climates between 20°C and 35°C, but I am noted for having a slightly better tolerance for cooler subtropical winters compared to other Florida varieties.
I have a naturally symmetrical and somewhat compact growth habit, making me an excellent choice for smaller gardens or even large decorative pots.
I enjoy a balanced fertilizer in the early spring and a potassium-rich feed during the summer to help my fruits reach their full color and sweetness.
My scientific name is Mangifera indica 'Sensation' and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.
My fruit flesh is a safe, Vitamin-rich treat for pets, but keep them away from my sap and leaves, which can be irritating to their skin and mouth.
My lush, evergreen canopy is a great air filter, providing oxygen and cooling shade throughout the year.
I am a great source of Vitamin A and dietary fiber, and my beautiful, plum-colored fruits make me a stunning "edible landscape" tree.
I am generally hardy, but I can be susceptible to "internal breakdown" if I am left on the tree for too long, so I should be picked at the right maturity.
I am a long-lived perennial tree that, with proper care and pruning, can remain a productive garden centerpiece for 30 to 50 years.
