I am the "Goliath of the Mango World," a legendary variety from Thailand that has taken the gardening world by storm due to my colossal size and breathtaking color. I produce some of the largest mangoes in existence, with individual fruits easily weighing between 1.5kg and 3kg. My skin is a magnificent deep purple-red that transitions to a vibrant crimson as I ripen, making me look like a giant, glowing gem hanging from my branches.
I am a premium, "jumbo-sized" variety prized by collectors and commercial growers for my massive fruit weight, fiberless texture, and high ornamental value.
I originated in Thailand (where I am known as Mahachanok or a giant selection of it), but I gained global fame under my trade name "King of Chakapat" for my king-sized proportions.
Because I produce such enormous fruits, I am a thirsty tree; I require deep, consistent watering during the fruit-development stage to prevent my "giant" mangoes from dropping early.
I am a sun-lover; I need at least 8 to 10 hours of direct sunlight to develop the intense anthocyanins that give my skin its famous purple-red "royal" hue.
I thrive in hot, humid tropical climates between 25°C and 40°C; I am sensitive to frost and perform best in regions with long, sun-drenched summers.
Despite my giant fruit, I have a relatively manageable growth habit and can be maintained through pruning; I prefer deep, fertile, well-draining soil to support my heavy harvest.
I am a heavy feeder; I require plenty of organic manure and a balanced fertilizer high in potassium and phosphorus to provide the energy needed to grow such massive fruits.
My scientific name is Mangifera indica 'King of Chakapat' and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.
My flesh is safe for pets, but because my fruits are so large, my sap is also quite abundant—ensure pets don't lick the sap from the stems as it can be irritating.
My broad, leathery evergreen leaves are exceptional at producing oxygen and providing a massive amount of cooling shade for your garden or orchard.
I am a "showstopper" fruit; a single mango can feed an entire family. My flesh is sweet, firm, and has a very high pulp-to-stone ratio, making me excellent for slicing.
My branches can literally break under the weight of my own fruit! I often require physical support (stakes or ties) to hold up my heavy "King" mangoes as they ripen.
I am a sturdy and reliable perennial tree that can continue to provide you with record-breaking harvests for 40 to 60 years.
